Hi folks!
It’s time to ramp down this version of OPC. I’ve been meaning to do this for, well, more than a year now.
I really enjoyed the first (Mighty) version of OPC and everyone’s frequent participation, and was excited for the fediverse version, too. Unfortunately, I just didn’t get enough of the OGs to transition over to make it work. And then once my dad’s health tumbled and he ultimately passed away, I lost interest and energy in making that happen.
I’ve since moved on to countless other projects—and this one is just hanging out, waiting to fade away into history. Sorry for being, at best, a mediocre host.
Anyway, take this as official notice of your onephoto.club account’s impending termination. Per fediverse tradition, that won’t happen for at least two months—I’ll pull the plug at some point after the end of September. That gives you enough time to transfer your account (aka, your followers and follows) to another Mastodon instance (aka, server).
There are a whole bunch of options out there. Mountains.social is a great outdoorsy-focused instance. Mastodon.social is the largest, and where I defaulted to when I first joined. OMG.lol is a funky old-school web service that also offers a well-regarded mastodon account at social.lol. And really, there are just countless others out there. And if you want to run your own, check out masto.host; that’s where I’ve been hosting OPC.
Here are the official Mastodon instructions for moving your account, and here is another nice rundown from an outside source. If you need help, lemme know.
I’d also like to put in a plug for micro.blog, which is an extremely unique blogging/social service. It gives you all the cool stuff of having a blog that you own, but also automatically copies and reformats every blog post into a native post on mastodon, bluesky, threads, and more. It’s what I use as my “social media” these days (my social posts originate from rsjon.es).
Thanks again for participating, especially if you were among those early 100ish that said, “sure, I’ll join a weird invite-only travel photo club on an odd platform I’ve never heard of before.” I appreciate you. If we haven’t chatted in a bit, please send me a message—I miss you.
Cheers.
Scott.

PS – I thoroughly enjoyed #OnePostcard as well—that’s occasionally living on, somewhat organically at this point.
